Thinking about buying a CB Drum Set? Here's some interesting info you may know.

CB Percussion is more known for instruments made for school bands.   If you every played drums in high school it is a good bet that some or all of the percussion instruments were made by CB.  They make a variety of snare drums, xylophones, bells, and other marching percussion instruments. 

CB also produces a low cost drum set that is good for a beginner or the hobbyist that does not want to put a great deal of money into a kit.  The CB5 will cost you under $400 and it has everything needed to start drumming.   This five piece kit comes in three different colors; black, steel gray, and wine red.

Included in the kit is a 22 inch bass drum with a pedal.  The drum has great sound and the pedal will work for some time, but tends to wear out rather quickly when played frequently.  An upgraded pedal may be needed if you like to play every day. 

There is a 14 inch snare drum with a stand and 12 and 13 inch tom toms that are mounted as well.  The hardware rack system for the set is pretty good but the stands for individual instruments like the snare tend to fall over easily.  Another heavier stand should be purchased if you find the snare is unstable for you.   There is also a 16 inch floor tom included in the 5 pieces. 

Most kits require you to purchase the cymbals separately but this CB drum set includes one 16 inch crash cymbal on a stand and a 14 inch Hi-Hat cymbal with stand.  The cymbals themselves are not the best in the world but will do for a beginner.

The set also comes with a throne.  The throne included is something that you may wish to upgrade along the way if the set is used frequently.  It will do well for a young drummer but an older drummer may find it a little uncomfortable and they may need a little more support. 

The shells of the drums are all 9 ply making them very durable and strong.  The head on the bass drum is black with the CB logo on it while the heads on the other drums are clear.  The heads can be changed to a better head that will make a better sound.

Many drummers keep this set as a practice set for years and never have a problem with it.  It isn't a professional gig set as it does not cost much and although the quality is good it probably won't stand up to the wear and tear of putting it up and taking it down frequently.  Set up the drums in the basement or garage and it will give you many years of service for just a fraction of the price of other drum kits.
